How to Use Worm Castings in Your Garden

How to use worm castings in your garden.

There are 2 ways in which you can make use of worm castings in your garden.

One way is to apply the worm castings directly into your garden just like compost. Worm castings is a plant fertilizer and so you will want to apply it close to where the plants are growing. One method is to sprinkle some around the base of the plant and leave it there. Another method is to mix the same amount of worm castings into the soil but not too deep…maybe an inch or two. Then water.

You can also make a small furrow around the plants and add some worm castings in the furrow and then cover it. Now water. This will provide nutrients directly to the roots of the plants.

The 2nd way to use worm castings is tea. You make tea with worm casting and water. You add 2 cups of worm castings to a 5 gallon bucket of rainwater or aged city water plus 2 tablespoons of molasses. Aerate with an aquarium pump and air stone or stir by hand. Let the mixture brew for 24 hours and then use asap. If you want to use a sprayer or fine spouted watering can then filter the worm castings tea with some cheesecloth or coffee filters. Spray the top and underside of the plants and leaves and also the soil.
