Tangelo Tree After Composting

I’ve had a small Tangelo tree for about 5 years and it never really grew much in that time period. It’s partly because of minimal watering and absolutely no fertilizer. My bad!!!

It looked like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree….only about 4 branches and a few leaves.

That has all changed in the past 3-4 months. I have been watering it 1-2 times per week and applied my own homemade compost. Wow what a change in 4 months.

I made a small compost bin out of a storage container and threw dead grass, leaves and some vegetable scraps in it. 2 months later, I had the darkest and richest compost you have ever seen. I dumped it under the Tangelo tree and spread it out like a mulch.

Let’s take a look at the Tangelo tree now…

It has a lot more branches and tons of bright green leaves. It doesn’t even look like the same tree.

Here’s a closeup of the leaves. You can see how bright green they are. Compost made a HUGE difference.

Was it fertilizer or water?

Watering didn’t make much difference because there were times when I got a lot of rain but this tree still never grew much.
